PastPosts * Ava Gardner Museum

Some photos from a trip to the Ava Gardner museum in Smithfield, NC in November 2006.

She is buried a few miles away from the museum. This is the family headstone with Ava's marker in front (AVA LAVINIA GARDNER / DEC. 24, 1922 / JAN. 25, 1990)

They had faces (and figures) then.

I agree with Patti. She'd have to lose thirty pounds if she was going to be a star today. Great photos, David - thanks for posting it again.

Excellent photos. I agree with the other comments. I miss the days when a woman was built like a woman.

It's amazing to think a little over ten years later Twiggy showed up and everything changed.

Her early films in the 1940s are fun to watch, before she became an icon. She does a nice turn as a gun moll in THE KILLERS.

THE KILLERS is #1 on my list. She's my pick for the ultimate femme fatale in that flick.

On the Beach is another film you should check out if you have not seen it.

She was a beauty. Great photos David.

RReynolds, That is one I've missed and has quite a cast besides Ava. I'm sure I will see it at some point.

Reb, Thanks.

That is some timeless beauty.

Very nice! That's a great one of you and her! ;)

David Cranmer said...

Chris/Geoff, My sentiments exactly.

Alyssa, Yeah, why did I have to ruin that picture?!

Beautiful!

Dave King said...

Not for me, she wouln't have to lose 30 lbs!

David Cranmer said...

Chudney, Thanks for stopping by.

Dave, Agreed, sir.

God, Ava was quite a lady. She's so good in the The Killers it's freakish. The second you see her you just know that poor bastard Lancaster doesn't have a chance.

Jake, That film and her performance is the noir classic I would take to the desert island. Astounding all around.
